Buckeyes' Wells injures foot

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells suffered a right foot injury during Saturday's season-opening victory against Youngstown State. Wells was hurt in the third quarter of the 43-0 rout, as he appeared to slip on the turf as he was taking a handoff near the goal line. He was helped off the field and carted into the locker room before returning to the sideline with a walking boot. "From what I gather, it [the injury] is more of a foot thing," said Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel after the game. "X-rays were negative." Wells had already run for 111 yards on 13 carries with a 43-yard scoring jaunt before the injury, notching his 10th career 100-yard game. A Heisman Trophy candidate, Wells rushed for 1,609 yards and 15 touchdowns as a sophomore last season.
